Console Wars

PS4 vs. Xbox One: The Introduction

Sony and Microsoft released their new systems, PlayStation4 and Xbox One, at around the same time in November. Sony and Microsoft are trying to outsell each other by making better games, better softwares and better designs. The Xbox One starts at $500 including Kinect whereas the PS4 starts at $400. Xbox One and PS4 are still gaming consoles but Xbox took a turn to multimedia capabilities, while PS4 still focuses only on gaming. Both consoles are extraordinary, so choosing the one that is right for you just depends on what you value.

The PS4 has a nice, sleek black design which can be propped vertically or horizontally. The PS4 also comes with a Blu-ray player so the owner can watch Blu-ray discs. Additionally, it has two USB ports in the front for headphones or charging stations. The PS4 has a 8-core AMD CPUs like the Xbox, but it also has a GDDR5 RAM, giving it the edge in graphics. On the PS4 is a light strip that changes color depending on its use; for example, it turns orange when you are charging your controller or blue when you are playing.

The Xbox One has been redesigned as a rectangular box. It offers an impressive multimedia feature where Skype, TV, and games are all available in a matter of seconds. The Xbox One uses a 8-core AMD CPUs, the same as the PS4.

Conclusion: If you are a hardcore gamer and want the best gaming experience, PS4 is the way to go. However, if you just want an all-around system, Xbox One is your best choice.

PS4 vs. Xbox One: The Controllers

Sony introduced the new and improved dual-shock controller for the PS4 that comes with a major feature: the touch pad. Right now the biggest use for the touch pad is in games. Another cool feature is the light bar. The light bar, which is located on the back of the controller, offers in-game reactions. For example, on some games, when you die, the bar may turn red and, when you are alive, it is green. The light bar has many different colors so there is a chance that different games will have different colors. The PS4’s controller also has a button on the top left that a user can press to start recording gameplay instantly. Another feature of the PS4’s dual-shock controller is that the controller does not take batteries; it is rechargeable.

Now, let’s talk about the Xbox One controller. The Xbox One controller has not changed that much. It does offer a nice slick design and Microsoft did install an extra set of rumble motors for a better feel. If you are using Kinect, the Xbox One controller can tell which controller you’re using and which player is using it. Unlike the PS4 controller, it does take batteries.

Conclusion: At the end of the day, it just depends on what you are used to. The PS4 controller has a nice comfortable feel, while the Xbox One controller offers an easy-to-use and easy-to-understand controller.

Xbox Live vs. PS+: Multiplayer Features

On Xbox One, you need Xbox Live to get many features online, which costs $60.00 for a one-year subscription. There are many features that you acquire when you first purchase Xbox Live. One is that you can play multiplayer in many games. You also have the ability to talk to friends if you have a microphone. Another factor that you should keep in mind is that Xbox One has a lot of children playing, so if you are a kid, you should think about with whom you want to game. Also, through Xbox Live, you can watch movies, TV shows, and other recreational entertainment by just plugging an HDMI cable into your TV. Finally, Xbox Live offers two free games a month.

PlayStation Plus used to be free; sadly, you now have to buy PS+. PS+ costs the same yearly amount as Xbox Live, and while it lacks the multimedia features of Xbox Live, it makes up for that with its free and exclusive features. In addition to giving players two free games a month, PS4 has a nice store setup so it is easy to find what you need. Another big feature is the screen recording: through PS+, you can instantly broadcast live or share gameplay through Twitch.

Conclusion: If you want to relax, watch TV, or watch movies with friends, you should get Xbox Live. If you are a serious gamer and want to play and share your gaming skills with the world, then PS+ is for you.

Xbox One vs. PS4: Sales

The PS4 has sold more units than the Xbox One has in the first three months since its release. The PS4 has sold 4.2 million consoles, whereas only 3 million Xbox One consoles have been sold. However, the fight for the more popular console is not over.
