Game Review: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Hello, and welcome toFullSizeRender (16)

game review!

In this review, we examine gameplay and game mechanics, items, story, and music. Please remember this is just an opinion so please don’t start bashing me! Thanks. (P.S. I won’t tell the story because I don’t want to spoil too much of the game.)

Part 1: Gameplay

Well “Ocarina of Time” (OOT) is in fact my favorite game of all time, so I’m very excited to share this review.

“Released to universal critical acclaim, Ocarina of Time‍ ’s gameplay system introduced features such as a target-lock system and context-sensitive buttons that have since become common elements in 3D adventure games” (Wikipedia discussing the original OOT).

OOT has  some pretty good controls–for a 3DS game. Originally this game was released on Nintendo’s first 3D console, the Nintendo 64 (N64) so the controls wouldn’t be as good as the N64 controls but, as I said, still good for a 3DS. It can get a bit awkward with the sword being on the “B” button, and if you equip the bow (which you get later in the game) on “X” it just feels awkward because you have to reach. Along with the bow, the gyro for aiming can get really weird, so I suggest you don’t play in the car or on a bumpy transport. Besides those complaints, I think the game plays well and I especially like the horse and the hookshot/longshot.

Part 2: Items

The items in Oot are FANTASTIC, and let me explain why. The jist of the game is that you’re a kid and time travels forward in time 7 years and so the item choices are very creative so let’s get on with it. When you first start the game your first objective is to find the Kokiri Sword (The tribe Link was from is called the Kokiri, I’ll explain it later) and the Deku Shield so you can enter the first dungeon, so let’s talk about the Kokiri Sword and Deku Shield. Well there is not much you can say about your first sword and shield it’s just… Cool. I won’t really spoil all the items so if you wanna find out you have two options buy the game or Google search it (trust me, the buying is more fun).

Part 3: Music

Well, the music is… FANTASTIC. I can’t upload audio files but look up “Ocarina of Time music” and be amazed, is all I can say, and also you can play music in the game so you know it will be great.

Part 4: Story

In the land of Hyrule, a fantasy kingdom, you play as a young 10/11 year old child named Link who lives with a tribe called the Kokiri. The Kokiri are a forest tribe of immortal, green-wearing, never-aging, children. One day Link is called upon by the great Deku Tree. The guardian of the forest, a talking tree that is over 100 years old. The great Deku Tree called upon Link to tell him about his destiny and that he is dying because there is a parasite inside him. So Link (being your hero) traveled inside the great Deku Tree. Once inside he found a giant spider like creature named Gohma, Link slayed Gohma but Link was too late. After this Link revived the Kokiri stone one of 3 keys to the temple of time. Link must get the other two. So Link traveled to lakes and mountains and villages and castles and finally gets both. Link sees the young princess on a hour she running and she threw something, soon after Ganondorf, the king of a desert tribe called the gerudo. So Link picked up what the princess and it was a magical flute called the Ocarina of time. When he is inside the temple he uses the three stones to unlock a huge stone door to a room contain the Tri-force and the Master Sword. These are the two great treasures of Hyrule. One (the Tri-force) can grant any wish and the other can slay any evil but suddenly Ganondorf had jumped in stolen the Tri-force, took over Hyrule, and captured Princess Zelda. So after this Link had pulled the Master Sword. Link had fallen into a seven year sleep to prepare his spirit. When he woke up he was tasked with a mission to defeat all 7 of Ganondorf’s minions. After a long journey up mountains, through canyons, across lakes, and even through a graveyard. Finally he confronted Ganondorf who had used the power of the Tri-force to become a giant boar-like creature called Gannon. Link had delivered the final blow; he would go back in time using the Ocarina of time to stop Ganondorf from ever stealing the Tri-force.
