Hello ladies and gentlemen and welcome to the:

review!

Disclaimer: This review contains spoilers for the Metroid series.

Metroid Other M for the Wii is the sequel to Super Metroid, an amazing game for the Super Nintendo!

The game is about Samus Aran on another quest, to explore an abandoned space station with many mysteries! The game mechanics are good, almost… You can go into first person and third person; in third person you get the full view of the room and in first person you can fire missiles and look around! It’s too bad that the motion controls are bad…

The game’s main enemies are called metroids, creatures that drain your life energy by attaching to your head. They are part of the space pirates led by a purple flying dinosaur (not Barney, sadly…) named Ridley! Ridley killed Samus’s parents and destroys her planet, but Samus is taken in by a race of birdlike creatures called chozos. The chozos’ main planet was called Zebes. The chozos created a machine called Mother Brain to be a mother figure to Samus.

As Samus grows up, parasites called metroids grow underneath the surface of Zebes. The space pirates attack and Mother Brain starts working for them and becomes the space pirates’ leader. Mother Brain notices that the space pirates have lots of potential, and she decides to work for them. The chozos were a peaceful race but they created Mother Brain and gave Samus her varia suit. The varia suit was made for Samus, gave her protection, and provided powerful weapons…

Now let’s start with the story of Metroid Other M!

Samus is being carried by a metroid that is trying to help her avoid Mother Brain’s lasers… Mother Brain shoots a laser at the metroid and drops Samus. Samus retaliates by shooting Mother Brain with a charge beam and saying my favorite quote of the game, “Mother! Time to go!”

Samus destroys Zebes and was picked up by the Galactic Federation. Samus wakes up and hears that her suit has been polished, but wait! Metroid DNA was on the suit… Samus heads out of the Galactic Federation and receives a signal from an abandoned space station. Samus rushes to the station to see the Galactic Federation beat her there. Samus approaches them then notices a couple of familiar faces: her old commander Adam Malkovich and her friend Anthony Higgs. They are here for the same reason, but they are looking for what happened to the station.

The creatures in the station had broken out of their cages and have taken over the station. Metroid signs have been spotted and they realized the station was meant to make metroids indestructible! Unkillable warriors! What were they thinking?! Turns out they were trying to make a bioweapon, for no reason at all… They created a robot called Melissa Bergman who has control of all the creatures in the facility. Her creator Madeline Bergman had good intentions but then Melissa went on a rampage and made the metroids attack everyone! The facility was lost… Samus continues to explore and then sees something terrible, something scary, something dangerous, something purple… RIDLEY! Ridley attacks Samus and then Anthony counter attacks and shoots him! Ridley retaliates by knocking him off and he falls into lava… Samus destroys Ridley… Her adventure continues and she finds Anthony!

Samus finds out about the Metroid Queen and Melissa unleashes her… Samus destroys the queen and the federation actually kills Melissa. Adam wants to destroy the remaining sector of indestructible metroids but Samus disagrees… Adam was her only father figure… Adam goes ahead and Samus exits the facility and goes on her next adventure!

Pros: Good story, fun gameplay, cool weapons, speaking characters

Cons: Somewhat bland characters, controls…

Rating: 9.2/10
