Live Action “Little Mermaid” Dream Cast

Here is our dream cast for the newly announced live action version of the Little Mermaid!

While this may not be the best piece of news of all time, it is a big one. So, of course, we are going to cast this movie with our personal picks.

Ariel

Emma Stone

Most recently in the hit, “La La Land”, Emma Stone is an amazing singer, amazing actress, and amazing person in general. All of her performances are so realistic and packed with such feeling that you can’t help following her character’s emotions to the T. A multi-talented star, she is an obvious choice for Ariel.

Emily  Blunt

Emily Blunt is an amazing actress who is very expressive, very emotional, and very dedicated to her performances. She played the Baker’s wife in the cinematic edition of, “Into the Woods”, where she displayed her amazing talent for singing. She has had many other roles, including Rachael Watson in, “The Girl on the Train” and Rita Vrataski in, “Edge of Tomorrow”.

Eric

John Legend

John Legend is an pop artist/actor who blows it out of the water in every movie he’s in. He has the singing chops, the drama chops and he’s a likable guy. He can definitely play a charming prince opposite a strong Ariel in Emily Blunt or Amandla Stenberg.

Ryan Gosling

Ryan Gosling was (most recently) in “La La Land” in which he proves that he can sing, act, and dance. He can hold a romance story and he is a really charming guy. He is even good at comedy (“The Nice Guys”), if it comes to that and I’m sure Disney would absolutely love to have him (being the giant star he is) and he would be a really amazing addition to a wonderful film.

Ursula

Laverne Cox

Laverne Cox is a singer/actor with amazing talent in both areas. She has a strong voice, a sassy attitude, and would be perfect as Ursula. Most well known for her role as Sarah Burset in, “Orange is the new Black,” but has also been in the live remake of, “Rocky Horror Picture Show,” as Frank N. Furter.

Sebastian

Lin-Manuel Miranda

What might you know Lin Manuel from? Hmm… Maybe “HAMILTON”?! He is the amazing artist and playwright behind “Hamilton” and has since collaborated with Disney on “Moana”. He is already announced to work on this movie, we just don’t know what he is doing on it. He will most likely be head of the music department, but there will be no surprise (or complaining) from us if he gets the fun but stern crab, Sebastian. To start us off, he already has a love for this character (his son is named after Sebastian) and he’s a fantastic and overall fun guy who could pull off the singing and acting with fantastic skill. He’s our top pick.

Flounder

Caleb McLaughlin

Caleb McLaughlin is most famous for his role in the recent Netflix series, “Stranger Things” (in which he is the best child actor), but he was also on broadway as Young Simba in “The Lion King”! He is amazing at singing and has a youthful glow and fun loving feel to his acting style that would complement the character extremely well. Not only that, but he has the perfect innocent and awkward charm to pull off the cute crush on Ariel that their character has.

King Triton

Bryan Cranston

Bryan Cranston, most famous for his role of Walter White in “Breaking Bad”, would be PERFECT for this role! He has a very powerful voice that contains the perfect mix of authority, wisdom, and care for this character. He could nail a (kind of scary) loving father figure (and has before), and he would just nail it.

Denzel Washington

Denzel Washington made a movie this year called “Fences”, and that movie is why he is on this list. He plays an utterly disappointed father figure to his son in that film and he is just perfect for Triton. He has shown amazing talent before and now that this film has came out, he is immediately qualified for this character. What an amazing performer.

Flotsam and Jetsam

Key and Peele

Key and Peele are a famous comedy duo (their real names are Keegan Michael Key and Jordan Peele) who are famous for their show, “Key and Peele”. Flotsam and Jetsam, while being semi serious, are supposed to be kind of useless and stupid. They would pull this off phenomenally and already have amazing chemistry. An amazing pair for two great parts.

Scuttle

Billy Eichner

Billy Eichner is a comedian famous for his very loud and excited sense of humor in shows like, “Billy on the Street,” and, “Parks and Recreation.” Scuttle, the seagull from the movie, has a similar sense of humor. He is a crazy, know it all guy who would be hilarious if portrayed by an insane and, again, extremely loud person.

Jack Nicholson

Jack Nicholson is very good at INSANE.  It would add to the character in terms of being weird. His calm but kind of creepy tone would be extremely funny in this role and he would just the a delight to have in the film.

Grimsby

Jeremy Irons

Jeremy Irons has played this kind of role before, like as Alfred in “Batman v. Superman”. He is good as the kind of sassy but loyal right hand man, and he is the appropriate age and he has the appropriate voice for this character. While he is in talks for the live action “Lion King” film, I think we’d all prefer to see him in “The Little Mermaid”.

Aquata

Scarlett Johansson

Scarlett Johansson is probably most well known as Agent Romanoff, or Black Widow, from the Marvel Universe. She is, however, an amazing singer, and was actually recently in the movie, “Sing!” as Ash. She can be as equally stuck up as she can be dramatic, so she’d be a great choice.

Andrina

Kate Hudson

Kate Hudson was most recently in, “Deepwater Horizon” as Felicia Williams

Arista

Kristen Bell

Kristen Bell has showcased her many talents specifically in the film “Frozen” (so Disney already likes her) and she could play off of the other actresses very well to make a fun sisterhood.

Atina

Kate Winslet

Kate Winslet is elegant, believable, and very nice in her roles, proving that she could make a fun supportive sister role.

Adela

Anna Kendrick

Anna Kendrick is another great actresses that balances tones very well but is also good at the rude and irritating but fun character as we saw in “Pitch Perfect”.

Alana

Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence could be a fun addition to this cast, portraying a kind of shallow and rude character that she could most likely pull off.

Chef  Louis

James Corden

James Corden is famous for hosting the “Late Late Show”, in which he is HILARIOUS! He would be perfect as this purely comedic role, being weirdly murderous to fish and extremely funny and loveable at the same time.
