Trump At The UN

Since the late twentieth century the office of the President of the United States has been respected. Throughout the world the American presidency and democracy was a sign of hope and most countries respected the person in that office. On the 25th of September that changed. The leader of the free world was met with an outburst of laughter at the United Nations General Assembly meeting after stating, ¨In less than two years, my administration has accomplished more than almost any administration in the history of our country.¨ He then followed up by saying, ¨so true.¨ The president was talking to the U.N about the change there has been in the world, how with short conversations the North Koreans they have made ¨encouraging measures that few could have imagined.” He mentioned how India has made strong moves to diminish poverty. While these accomplishments are great, President Trump phrased them in a way that made it seem like it was his doing.

At Friends Central 13 out of the 20 kids who were asked knew that the president was laughed at. Simon Rasansky ‘23 says, ¨I think he has no idea what is actually going on with his administration.¨ Music teacher Mr. Bradley states ¨that [Trump] doesn’t understand what the rest of the world thinks.” At Friends’ Central the opinion of this event does not vary much. A majority of students agree with this assessment of the president. It seems America is losing the respect and pedestal it once held. In the future we will see how it continues to hold up.
