El Chapo Finally Sentenced

On Tuesday the 12th of February, Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán was found guilty on all of his ten charges and is guaranteed life in prison. He will be sent to the “Alcatraz of the Rockies,” where some of the US’s worst criminals and terrorist are being held. The charges mostly include drug trafficking of marijuana, cocaine, heroin, and crystal meth. The trial lasted eleven weeks in Brooklyn and came down to a decision by the jury. During the trial he was also accused of drugging and raping girls as young as thirteen. He also was accused of bribing former Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto for $100 million when said president took office in 2012, as well as offering him $250 million more to end the manhunt against El Chapo. El Chapo has also been accused of various other murders and other brutal crimes. The reason his arrest is so important is because he is one of the biggest drug lords in Mexico. This is also a victory for the “War on Drugs,” which has Mexico and the US working together to stop the amount of drugs being smuggled into the US through the border. Currently this is everything that has happened but we may see more in the coming weeks.
