The Lie Spread Among Gamers

For the past few months, the media has been insisting that video games cause violence. The media supports this by stating that before violent video games, international casualties were not nearly as high. There is no or close to no evidence to prove that video games cause violence. “The public doesn’t always blame crime on video games — but they are eight times more likely to do so when the perpetrator of a crime is white,” according to the website Ivory. Despite this the fact that it has been proven that video games do not cause violence, we decided to interview people around the FCS campus and asked their opinion on the matter.

Do video games cause violence?

Tue Huynh: No, because there are articles that explain experiments and research that show that video games do not cause violence.

Theo D: No, I’m not sure.

Tal: No, there are many studies that show that video games don’t cause violence.

It gives people an outlet for their anger. Studies show that people that do school shootings play less violent games, such as Stardew Valley for example.

Oliver: Absolutely 100%, because before video games were released nobody died, the start of WW1 was started because Pong. Before video games, there were no wars, nobody fought, and nobody could die.

Leo: No, because scientific studies and experiments have shown that it doesn’t.

From the results of the opinions of middle schoolers at FCS, we can conclude that the people from FCS know the truth and do not think video games cause violence.
