Top 5 Amateur Photography Mistakes

For someone who enjoys photography, people surprise me with their incompetence. I hope to teach you common mistakes you might be making, so that you can avoid them. Repetition in your photography. This often occurs with the use of presets, edits that you have saved and can be copy and pasted onto another photo. A good rule of thumb is to try to treat every photo like an individual. What works in one photo, won’t work in another. Over editing. Editing photos is about enhancement, not about creating a new photo. Before you adjust the exposure module, think about how it enhances (or doesn’t) your photo. When editing, everything should be intentional. Every time you make a decision to edit your photo, it is either enhancing or hurting your photo. Try to watch our for over-filtered, over-saturated, and over-exposed photographs. Cliché, silly, or uninteresting composition. Like editing, your composition should…

Review: Artist’s Pens

Are you interested in using pens in your artwork? Maybe this review is for you! Pen #1: Pilot G-2 05 This pen was obviously meant for writing, and it does it’s job. It’s ink is very black, and it writes smoothly. However for drawing I would avoid this pen. It’s very small, but the pen strokes show up so that you can’t get a clean black section. Instead you see some scratchy pen lines. 4/10 for drawing, 8/10 for writing, Pen #2: Micron Graphic 1 Sakura is known for its high quality micron drawing pens. The ink is nice, the nibs are nice, and they have a variance of sizes. However microns run out of ink if you work mainly with pens, and are not refillable. You might find yourself leaning towards more long-lasting pens if you work only with ink. The graphic 1 is the biggest micron size. It’s…

App Unwrap: Procreate

Many people are making the switch to digital art. It’s lighter, costs less overall, and a new interesting medium. Most people will know Adobe Photoshop, the lead program in digital art. Other less known programs include Paint tool Sai, a iOS app, and other professional programs. At first, the idea of a well made drawing iOS app will shock most digital artists. iPads and iPhones aren’t exactly rebound for their artistic capabilities, however the iOS app Procreate  is an accessible, cheap, intuitive, and easy to use. Procreate is an extremely well made and capable drawing app. Unlike sketchbook express and other drawing apps, it has professional grade tools for a low low price. You are able to create up to thirty three layers, there are tons of textures and “supplies”, selection and transformation tools, a useful color wheel palette (plus the ability to create your own palettes) a video recording…

Struggling with Math?

Struggling with Math? Many math students say they don’t like math. It’s confusing, overwhelming, and something a lot of people struggle with. Often certain people react better to different explanations, and most people learn and solve problems at a different pace. However, math doesn’t have to be a source of worry. Most students don’t hate math, they just struggle with it. “How many different steps you have to do confuse me.” “It’s boring.” “I zone out during class, and then I don’t know how to do it later.” Sometimes, explanations just don’t click with students. Math can be hard, especially if you don’t understand a concept and the class starts moving forward without you. It’s overwhelming and a little scary. The worst thing to happen is when you are out sick, come back, and don’t understand anything. “I missed so much school, I came back and there was a test…

Turtle Talk with Terry: 5th Edition

Terry is a Red Eared Slider turtle owned by Ms. Sims. Red Eared Sliders (also known as Red Eared Terrapins) are found throughout the United States east of the Rocky Mountain. Did you know that these turtles can hibernate? They don’t fully hibernate like bears, but instead, they brumate. The difference is the turtles become much less active, but also get air outside of the water. They usually start to brumate around October and through the winter. They become active again around March or April.
