The FDA Pfizer, which for 5 year olds and under, has officially applied for, this vaccine is estimated to be approved by the end of February! We’ve been through a lot of COVID variants in the time of the Pandemic, some of which have died out, but some of which have become the most known things around the world. These Variants are going to be the main topic of our article today. But first! A small announcement! Cloth masks don’t work well against Covid! The recommended mask is a KN95, but a medical mask will work as well. Make sure you are wearing one of these masks in order to protect yourself from germs! And now, back to COVID variants. The original virus, as everyone knows, is COVID-19, but since then we have had a DELTA variant,…

Current Event Corner #1

Current Event Corner #1 By Hannah Seidel-Nini ’26 Welcome to the Current Event Corner! This week we are covering a couple topics, including the Russia and Ukraine circumstance. But first, we are talking about Stephen Breyer, a supreme court judge, who is retiring in June, at the age of 83. In response to his announcement, Joe Biden came out with a statement, saying that he will nominate the first African-American woman after he retires. There are three top candidates for the position, Ketanji Brown Jackson, Leondra Kruger, and J. Michelle Childs. Michele Childs seems to be a top contender among the people, and officials. Lindsey Graham, a Senator, came out with a quote; “I can’t think of a better person for President Biden to consider for the Supreme Court” The other topic we are going to cover is the current situation between Ukraine and Russia. As of now, Ukraine wants…

Who would Friends Central students vote for in the 2020 elections?

In November 2020 the US will hold their quadrennial elections. The outcome of this election is most likely to be Donald Trump as the winner, but this does not mean that we should not look into the other candidates and get our opinions out to our parents on who we would like to see in office.   Dallas Wolfson (‘24): “Biden. ’Cause he’s not Trump.”   Zack Platt (‘21): “Bloomberg. He’s the mayor of NY. He was just announced, he’s a billionaire, the best mayor New York has ever had. Second choice would be Biden but I wouldn’t vote for him in the primary. I love Andrew Yang, but he won’t win. He also only has a couple of things he’s running on, and not looking at the big picture for the country. I hate Elizabeth Warren, she’s terrible. She pretended to be Native American… she’s just kinda odd. Kamila…

Us-Iran Conflict; Fear and Memes

As you’ve probably heard, there has been some tension between the US and Iran that has come to the world’s attention in the past couple weeks. This article will go over two things, the conflict and the memes about World War 3.  The conflict started getting big on January 3rd, when the US sent a drone to kill the Iranian general Qasem Soleimani. Trump said Soleimani was a terrorist and was planning on killing more Americans. After Soleimani was killed, Iran sent 22 missiles to Ayn al-Asad base in Iraq. The base housed US troops that were stationed there. Trump later said in his speech to the United States that there were no casualties and minimal damage to the base. In the same address Trump predicted no war with Iran in the near future. He also said that if Iran does anything to the US the US will place sanctions…

Jojo Rabbit: A Comedy About WW2, One Way or Another

Please note that the opinions of this review only reflect the views of the author, and do not represent FCS or the Phoenix Enquirer as a whole. It may be hard to believe, but it’s true. They pulled off a comedy about the tragic events of WW2, when Hitler vowed to destroy everyone who was different from him. The movie was directed by Taika Waititi, the director of Thor: Ragnarok, so I promise you this movie is better than you expect. And even though this is a comedy, it manages to keep it honest and depressing at the same time.   In the movie, we follow a 10 year old boy who dreams of being like Hitler. He attends a training camp for Hitler Youth in hopes of being the best patriot he can be. Unfortunately, he gets scars from a grenade incident after a failed revenge attempt. After that,…

The Young Playwrights Contest In FCS Middle School

Here we have an interview with Lori Reed, the middle school drama teacher. The interview with Ms. Reed gives the information about what this contest is all about, and what the winners earn.    What is the young playwrights competition?  So it’s called the playwrights in progress, and it’s an opportunity for young people to express their views in an art in the form of a play! What do you do to help students enter into the competition?  We have a process of preaching the parts of the play, reading other students plays so they can see examples, then brainstorm together, and then when they start writing their plays their classmates start to improve and expand their own plays. What does the winner of the young playwrights competition earn?  In our Friend’s Central competition you get to direct your cast and see your own play up on the main stage,…

Beet Salad (looks less like guts in real life): With blue cheese, kalamata olives, and white wine vinaigrette.

By Jack Schneider-Gersick ’25   Ingredients 6 medium beets, washed, stems removed, unpeeled 20 unpitted kalamata olives, minced 1 wedge stilton cheese Pine nuts  White wine vinegar EVOO Salt pepper Method  Put an inch of cold water in a large pot and bring to a boil on high heat. When the water is boiling, float a medium metal bowl in the water and place the beets inside the bowl. Turn the heat down to medium, put the lid on the pot and steam until the beets are soft, about 50 minutes. Tip: you can check if beets are soft simply by poking them with a fork. If the fork slides through with little effort, they are ready. If it takes a lot of effort to get the fork through, they need more time Meanwhile, put 2 tablespoons of EVOO and 1 tablespoon of white wine vinegar into a small glass…

Last Star Wars Trailer Review- Is the the End of the Saga?

The arrival of “Star Wars Rise of Skywalker” has hyped up millions of fans across the globe. “Rise of Skywalker” is the last movie in the Star Wars saga.  The trailer was action packed and emotional, but enough of my talking, and let’s get to some interviews.    Aiden: “So I thought that the Star Wars trailer had a lot of battleships and space scenes which makes me think that there’s going to be a lot of battles and it’s not like the other Star Wars trailers where there are some happy moments in it and then it goes to cut straight to the battle. This Star Wars trailer was very different because it kept right to the chase and it just showed scenes of the battle the whole time and the battles of very intense and at the end the last part of the trailer we don’t know…

CSGo Case and Other Updates

On October 18th the most recent update to CS:GO was released. This update introduced the new CS20 case, it added the New Cache to scrimmage mode and added a new sticker capsule.  This update commemorated the 20th anniversary of Counter-Strike franchise that began in 1999. This new case contained 17 new skins for guns and a new type of knife that resembles the classic style knife from Counter-Strike 1.6 and counter-strike source.  The other big part of this update was that it added the long awaited “New Cache” map into the scrimmage gamemode. This map has been hyped up for around 6-8 months now. The “New Cache” is a remake of a map based on a Soviet warehouse just outside of Chernobyl. The map has always had some problems but has always been a favorite of fans.  On March 28th, 2019 Cache was removed from the profesional map pool and…

Quantum Stealth- the Future of Camouflage

Manufacturer Hyperstealth Biotechnology claims to have created something they call ‘Quantum Stealth’ material that is paper thin and bends light waves so objects behind it can nearly vanish. The only things you can see are either objects extremely close to the thin material, or anything far away like a background. This technology has been designed for use in war zones. According to Snell’s Law, every material has a specific index. The light is the quantity of the speed of light. The company says that it can be used in any condition, even at night, and does not require any power source. The Quantum Stealth is also said to bend ultraviolet and infrared as well, making it so it is not visible with night-vision tools, and making the ultimate stealth technology. This tech was started in 2010 by Guy Cramer, CEO of the Hyperstealth Biotechnology company, and the patents are only…
