NBA Update

The NBA season just started in October, and started with a very bad injury. The first game of the season was Cleveland Cavaliers vs. the Boston Celtics. The power forward for the Boston Celtics named Gordon Hayward suffered a dislocated ankle and fractured tibia. The final score of this game was 102 – 99. The Cavaliers went on to win the game. This game was a lot bigger than it seemed. Kyrie Irving was just traded from the Cavaliers to the Celtics. Lebron James was great friends with Kyrie. Lebron and Kyrie were on the same court for the first time in awhile. They were the biggest dynamic duo since Shaq and Kobe Bryant, until a series of events between Kyrie and LeBron that made Kyrie leave the Cavs. Kyrie got traded to the Celtics and went on to say, “I don’t care what people think.” In other news the…

Eighth Grade Trip to Washington

On Friday September 24th the eighth grade took a trip to the capital of the United States, Washington DC. The trip took the eighth grade to many monuments, memorials and museums throughout the city. The afternoon of the first day included a visit to the National History Museum, meant to celebrate American Culture and the Aerospace Museum, detailing the World’s Exploration of Space. That night we visited the World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War Memorials. The standout of these three was the Vietnam Memorial, a wall with plaques commemorating the fallen soldiers. There was no grandeur, no statues just a wall of names. This reflects the horrific losses of human life in war in contrast to the other memorials celebrating the magnificent soldier who pulled through and won the day, because not all war stories end like that. Many start with a man walking into the field of…

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Trailer Analysis

[Trailer included at the end of the article.] The Last Jedi trailer just came out and it has blown up with theories and ideas behind it. This is my theory of what is going to happen in the Last Jedi. Warning! If you want to go into the movie fresh, don’t read this. SPOILER ALERT! In the beginning of the movie, Rey meets up with Luke and asks him to train her in the ways of the Force, but he is afraid and refuses to train her. I think when Luke says, “I have seen this raw power before,” he is referring to himself and not Kylo. I think this because of how quickly Luke saw himself learn the Force without much training, while Kylo had years of training behind him. When Luke refuses to train Rey, she goes rogue and encounters Snoke. Snoke captures Rey and tries to take…

Juice Machine Recipes #1

Hello everyone! It’s Riley and Luke here and today we are going to start a series of articles. This series revolves around the new juice machine that was added just outside the cafeteria next to the athletic offices. We will be creating and sharing a new recipe every week using only this juice machine. Hopefully, we can continue this until the end of the year and we hope that you all will enjoy our recipes! For those of you who don’t know, the juice machine, called Mix, creates custom beverages. It can make teas, juices, and even seltzers. You can adjust the flavors, sugar levels, or make your drink sparkling. Just select your options on the touchscreen, and put your cup or bottle under the dispenser. Best of all, it’s completely free! Today’s Recipe: Bootleg Sprite We decided that our first recipe would be what we call Bootleg Sprite, a…

English Premier League

The English Premier League (EPL) is a fierce competition based all over England and in some parts of Wales. There are 20 teams in the EPL ( 3 more teams could be joining the EPL if Catalonia wins Independence and leaves Spain) with all of them holding a crucial place in the Premier League. Manchester City have been on fire this season to the point when losing 4-0 to Manchester City is a good thing. At the other end of the table is Crystal Palace; they recently broke the record of not scoring in 6 games, having a total of 7 games lost. Crystal Palace hosted the reigning champions Chelsea at Selhurst Park. They picked up their first win and their first three points of the season against Chelsea one of the best teams in the EPL.   The EPL has been a place only for teams in the UK…

Screenagers: An Editorial

On Friday, October 6th, the whole Middle School was gathered to watch Screenagers, a 2016 documentary about kids who spend too much time on their phones. Stereotypical This has been brought up a lot, but honestly, a majority movie was based on the opinion that boys play video games, and girls use social media. For example, there is not a female character who plays video games, and the only boy depicted using social media is the manipulator who asked a girl for nudes. Not only that, but even the adults in the documentary are stereotypical. Many of the moms in the film think that their child will get stalked simply because they use the internet, while most the dads are laid-back white men that don’t care about what their kids do. Not only that, but almost all of the boys are depicted as skinny kids with bad haircuts obsessed with…

13 Spooky Halloween Superstitions

Hi, Dylan here! As many of you know, and are readily waiting for, Halloween is around the corner. Many of us will be going around and stealing candy from people’s doors while dressed up as inflatable dinosaurs. Aside from this fun, Halloween is a very superstitious holiday. It is rumored to be the day that the dead come back to haunt for one night. Nowadays, it is more about candy and costumes, but back in the 1600s, it was a very terrifying day. Here are 13 spooky Halloween superstitions… A person born on Halloween can speak to and see spirits and ghosts A burning a candle inside a jack-o-lantern on Halloween keeps evil spirits and demons at bay. To cast a headless shadow or no shadow at all is still believed by many folks in the United States and Europe to be an omen of death in the course of…

In Filming

Most of the students in the Middle School have noticed something out of the ordinary happening around school this week. From Monday 10/15/17 to Wednesday 10/18/17 the Middle School is welcoming some very special guests, a filming crew who will capture the true spirit of the Middle School. Let’s start out with a quick introduction to who is on the crew. First up we’ve got Ben Kalina. Third grader Maia Kalina is the daughter of Ben Kalina, and she goes to school here at FCS herself. Next up we’ve got Ian Mosley-Duffy, and finally we have Connor O’Mara. These three people are the only members of the filming crew, and have been working hard throughout the past few days. The biggest question here on campus inquires as to why the crew is filming during our classes, outside, and even during service? 7th grader Dev Gupta believes that they are filming…
