Your neighborhood reporter, Poyraz Ozer is reporting from Bikini Bottom. There are rumors, or should we say… there were rumors that the Spongebob Squarepants Show would be cancelled in 2018. The question is: “Is the Spongebob Squarepants Show REALLY ending????!!!!!!
No worries fans, it is only a hoax. It seems even Bikini Bottom is not immune to fake news and hoax tweets. There was a fake tweet circulating and saying that the show would be cancelled in 2018.
Do not worry, The Krusty Krab isn’t out of business just yet. According to Entertainment Weekly, Nikelodeon has ordered 26 more episodes of the show to renew it through 2019.
An identical Spongebob Squarepants cancellation hoax swept social media in 2013 and in 2016.
Spongebob adventures with Patrick, Squidward, Sandy, Mr. Krab’s, Plankton, and Pearl will continue. Now, as Mr. Krab’s would say, “Get back to work!”
Friends Central students’ and staffs’ reactions toward Spongebob cancellation rumors:
Oliver: Angert (7th grade student): ” I don’t care about Spongebob getting cancelled, because they will have infinite reruns.”
Vicki Schwoebel (librarian + tech person): Watches Spongebob and would be very sad if it was cancelled. “I watch Spongebob reruns after work to “relax” and I love it!’”
Will Meyers (6th grade student):”I think that it is fake, also I believe that it is a great show and it should never be cancelled.”
Zoë Hayton (6th grade student): “I believe that Spongebob should not be cancelled because tons of little kids watch Spongebob and find inspiration and they would be heartbroken. I also believe the rumors might not be true.”
Ken Reynolds (Tech): “I have seen a few episodes, so I have many to watch, so a cancellation wouldn’t affect me much…”
Mrs. Guenther (English teacher): “If it ran its course, it ran its course.”
Mr. Chagan (History teacher): “I think a lot of Spongebob’s humor is sarcastic and little kids do not know the difference between sarcastic humor and humor that is for jokes. I think Spongebob is more for young adults.“
