Winter Holiday Dishes

By: Elle von Andrea ’27

When the winter holidays come, everyone loves gathering around a table and eating the food that has been passed down by their ancestors. I love the holidays and the food that comes with it. These are my top 5 favorite foods (in no particular order)

Cinnamon Stars

  • When my dad was little, his friend’s mom made really good cinnamon stars. He brought the recipe to America to have a little piece of home with him. Every December we make cinnamon star cookies to enjoy them with our friends and family. It is an almond flour based cookie with a meringue glaze.

Hot Chocolate

  • Everybody likes a warm hot chocolate on a snowy day. You can make hot chocolate anytime but it’s a completely different experience when it’s cold outside. You can add fun toppings like marshmallows, whipped cream, any candy cane/ peppermint treat, and more!

Soup or Chili

  • I love soup and chicken chili during the colder months. I love chicken chili with green peppers, tomatoes, and white beans.A few of my favorite soups are, any lentil soup, a basic chicken noodle soup, or a tomato soup.

Holiday cookies

  • I love cookies in general, but holiday cookies that are baked and decorated with love are even better. You can decorate the cookies with whatever you want! I love it when the chocolate chips in the cookie melt as soon as they touch your tongue. I also love when you eat them with family and friends or you make them with your family. Holiday cookies make everybody’s holiday better.
