LeGarrette Blount to the Eagles

LeGarrette Blount, the Super Bowl 51 Champion running back, has now signed with the Eagles. He signed a one-year deal for $2.8 million. Blount has 5,459 yards in his career, 50 touchdowns, a 4.4 yard average, and he has 261 first downs. He is 30 years old, he has Super Bowl experience that the Eagles lack, and he has won two Super Bowls. He helped the Patriots come back in their Super Bowl 51 win. Right now the Eagles have 5 running backs, including Blount. Darren Sproles is about to retire at 34 years old, Ryan Mathews gets hurt every year, and we have 2 young stars with capability (Donnel Pumphrey and Wendell Smallwood). Here are some of his highlights. As you saw in the highlights, Blount was able to take on the most elite defenders in the league. Since the Eagles have a weapon like Blount, then we have a shot at…

7 Tips on How to Begin to Make a Video Game

So you want to make a video game? Well of course you do if you clicked this article! Well, here are a couple quick tips to get you started. 1. Have a Bit of Background Knowledge Though some programs don’t need it, it is always best to learn how to code. For video games, probably the best coding language to learn is C Sharp, but you can be fine with JavaScript. Codecademy is a great place to start. Also, play your favorite video games! Most people get inspired by playing other people’s games. You’re way more likely to have an idea for a video game if you play one. 2. Think of the Mechanics of the Game Before you think about story, characters, level design, power-ups, and more, try to think about the main mechanic you want to convey and base the other things around that. The Portal series is…

Five Tips for Editing Scenes

Editing! The vast world of editing is fun to explore! However, when you have no experience, it’s tough. That’s why I’m here to tell all my Romeo and Juliet editors out there 10 tips for editing an effective and flowing scene. Camera Angles While camera angles aren’t done while editing in post, they’re the most important thing to editing. If your shots aren’t intriguing or creative, you will lose your viewers’ attention immediately. If you have a small frame with five people jammed into it, your audience doesn’t know where to look. For shots with a lot of people, you need to get either a wide shot or put your shot at a large angle. For shots where you want to focus on one person, to POV shots of another person in the scene. If your scenes are boring or average, you lose eyes. Music MUSIC MUSIC MUSIC! Music is…

Trump Approval Survey Results

Before the 2016 election, I sent out a survey asking the Friends’ Central community for their opinions on certain political and social issues. Now that we’ve elected a new president who has been in office for roughly five months, I felt that I needed to create a new survey specifically about our president. This survey had a turnout of 25 responses. That’s not a large number, but it’s a good enough sample of our community. The questions asked during the survey are as follows: Overall, do you approve of President Trump? How much do you approve of Trump? How much do you approve of VP Mike Pence? How much do you approve of Trump’s cabinet? Do you agree with Trump’s border wall proposal? Do you think that Trump is doing enough to address terrorism? Do you think that Trump is doing enough to address prejudice and hate crimes? Do you…

The Future Is Here

Uber has said that it plans to have cars that can vertically take off of the street. It is similar to the helicarriers you see in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, though downsized a couple billion square feet. They take off vertically and their propellers change directions to make it move forward/ backwards. (Don’t ask us how it turns, because we don’t have the slightest idea.) Last week, a Slovakian company named AeroMobil propelled its Flying Car at the super car show in Monaco. “The first vehicle is intended to create a buzz,” Stefan Vadocz, AeroMobil’s chief communications officer said to Newsweek. The car can fly up to 1,000 km at the top speed of 300 km/h. There is one question everyone is still wondering: What if something goes wrong??? AeroMobil’s car comes with the latest technology in vehicle recovery ballistic parachutes. It is designed to bring an airborne vehicle back…

Earth Force Work Day

The annual Earth Force work day is today! This is an entire day that is dedicated to improving the health of East Indian Creek, a stream located in Morris Park, only steps away from our campus. This day also provides an opportunity to eighth graders working on their Earth Force projects to utilize this day to advance their work. From a personal standpoint, I will be one of those people. I’m working to make sure that trees are planted in and around our community, especially for those that need them. There is a chance that there will be trees to plant tomorrow. You’re probably wondering what kinds of activities will be included. We will be removing invasive species, clearing swamp algae, removing dead wood from trails, digging a runoff trench to prevent water erosion on the trail, and doing some general litter patrol. I interviewed Dr. Z., one of the coordinators…

FCS Goes to the National History Bee

Welcome to a short article on the National History Bee! We have some great news: four contestants from our school are moving on to the national finals. (That is a record high for Friends’ Central.) The finals will be held in Atlanta, Georgia on June 1-4. The four contestants are: Sam Kazak, Charlie Szwartz, Jacob Lowry, and Dev Gupta. All of us would like to thank Mr. Chagan for the time he put into the Bee and all the times he helped us practice and prepare for the finals. The next paragraph is Mr. Chagan’s interview. (Note: The italics are me asking the question.) What do you think about the regional finals and the history bee in general? I think the opportunity for students to compete in the regional finals is a terrific opportunity for them to get a chance to work with kids across different grades and they get…

Earth Force: Children’s Books to CHOP

Bettering our communities and improving the quality of our experiences aren’t easy tasks. They take a lot of work, dedication, and willing citizens in order to make progress in society. Our eighth grade community has been given an assignment called, “Earth Force,” which is about working with a cause that you are passionate about. Eighth graders Ha-Eun Choi, Anne Gullace, and Cindy Kim are working on their Earth Force project now. They are donating books to the Children’s Hospital of Pennsylvania and to GoodWill. I had the fortunate opportunity to be able to talk to Ha-Eun about their project and got some details about the process of collecting the books. Why did you decide on this project? We all like to read books so we wanted to donate some so that others can read them. How have you been going about collecting books? We made an assembly announcement, we have…
