MLS & Local Hockey Previews

MLS (Major League Soccer) Predictions Myles will be predicting the two biggest matches of the week. Game Prediction 1: Orlando City vs FC Dallas This will be a close game. Orlando City is 3 points behind FC Dallas and has 16 fewer goals than Dallas. Orlando has had a bad start to the season, with only 35 points and in 10th place. FC Dallas, on the other hand, is in 8th place and with 38 points. After a thumping defeat at the hands of Minnesota United, FC Dallas is looking to come back with a win against Orlando. Orlando has a pretty bad record in the MLS so far, as they’ve only won 9 games out of the 30 they’ve played. There will most likely be a red card somewhere in this match. The game will be close, but FC Dallas will eventually be victorious against Orlando, 3 – 1….

2017 Summer eSports Recap (Part 1)

Over the summer, multiple competitive gaming events have occurred. Today, Riley, Jackson, and I will report on these. While we will be mostly focusing on Overwatch and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive events, DOTA 2, Street Fighter V, League of Legends, and Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds will also be mentioned. This is only Part 1, featuring Overwatch, CS:GO, and PUBG.   CS:GO Rostermania- Over the summer, almost every tier one and a large amount of tier two CS:GO teams made roster changes. In this segment, I will be showcasing the most interesting roster moves of the 2017 rostermania. Fnatic: Fnatic decided it was time for a change, so the dropped 2 of their players, Olof “Olofmeister” Kajbjer and Dennis “dennis” Edman and brought in Jonas “Lekr0” Olofsson from Godsent and Maikil “Golden” Selim from Fnatic Academy. Fnatic could have dropped Dennis and not Olof and could have been fine but overall…

Crisis in Puerto Rico: Hurricane Maria

As many of you know, this hurricane season has been the worst in decades. With Harvey hitting Texas and Louisiana, Irma hitting Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico, Jose hitting Florida, and then Maria slamming into Puerto Rico just days after Irma. Hello, I am Dylan and I will be giving you a crash course on the devastation and relief efforts in Puerto Rico. Two weeks ago Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico. According to NASA, the wind speeds were over 155 miles per hour. It made landfall on September 20th, 2017. It was the strongest hurricane since the 1800’s. About 97% of the island’s 3.4 million inhabitants are in the dark. One week after Hurricane Maria slammed into Puerto Rico, Governor Ricardo Rosselló said that about half of the residents still do not have running water. Since Puerto Rico is an island there is no where to go to…

Order the Numbers 1

Hello everyone! Seth here, with a new kind of puzzle- Order the Numbers! You must place numbers into a specific order so they follow specific rules, that differ by puzzle. Answers will be revealed in a subsequent issue. There will be 3 puzzles per issue- one Easy, one Medium, and one Hard. Asia Kate Dillon and a Theory on Gender-Neutrality

A show aired on the channel Showtime now includes a non-binary character. Taylor Mason, a character on the show Billions, is a gender-neutral character whose pronouns are they, theirs, and them. The actor that plays Taylor, Asia Kate Dillon, also identifies as non-binary. They are the first gender-neutral actor playing a gender-neutral character on television, and not only that, but their performance has put them up for an Emmy nomination submission. Showtime approached Asia and told them that they were going to submit them for an Emmy nomination. The channel asked Asia how they would like to be submitted, as an actor or an actress. Dillon was conflicted about how they would like to be entered, and so wrote a letter to the Emmys in order to sort out exactly what the two categories meant. The Emmys responded saying that any eligible performer may be entered in either category for…

War Games: How Are Video Games Affecting Us?

In the 21st century, FPS (first person shooter) games ranging from gritty entertainment like Call of Duty to colorful, fantasy battles like Overwatch. These shooter games, no matter how harmless they seem, all have one thing in common: war. Keep reading to find out how this affects our youth and the logic behind it. Marcus and Alex: Look at the Nintendo go-kart franchise Mario Kart. The happy, racing game has no violence, right? Wrong. Under the cute outer surface, this morbid game has you throwing reptile shells and fireballs at your opponents just to win. And the blue shell? A homing explosive that will devastate you and your cart (and friendships. Look it up). Also promoting seatbelt less driving. And regular Mario, even worse. Squishing and stomping cute, mostly harmless, creatures to death. Or take the fun, loving RTS MMO Clash Royale. Seems harmless, but… no. See some Skeletons? Smite…

Top 5 Amateur Photography Mistakes

For someone who enjoys photography, people surprise me with their incompetence. I hope to teach you common mistakes you might be making, so that you can avoid them. Repetition in your photography. This often occurs with the use of presets, edits that you have saved and can be copy and pasted onto another photo. A good rule of thumb is to try to treat every photo like an individual. What works in one photo, won’t work in another. Over editing. Editing photos is about enhancement, not about creating a new photo. Before you adjust the exposure module, think about how it enhances (or doesn’t) your photo. When editing, everything should be intentional. Every time you make a decision to edit your photo, it is either enhancing or hurting your photo. Try to watch our for over-filtered, over-saturated, and over-exposed photographs. Cliché, silly, or uninteresting composition. Like editing, your composition should…

You Decide: PC or Console Gaming?

Hello everyone, this is my second addition to my debate series. Today, Riley, Calvin, and Marcus will join me in a new topic: should traditional gaming be played on a console, or should we switch to computer gaming? Riley and I will argue for PC against Calvin and Marcus, who side with console gaming. First Topic: Price Luke: At first glance, console seems cheaper, but that’s not exactly true. An Xbox One can cost around to $350, and while PCs are best at around $1,000, you can run eSports games like Overwatch, CS:GO and League of Legends on a $400 computer. Riley: I completely agree with Luke. When one part of a console stops working or breaks, you have to buy a completely new console. On the other hand, when a PC part breaks or stops working, you can replace it and some parts can cost less than $30. Let…

Live Action “Lion King” Dream Cast

HI, FRIENDS! So, a live action Lion King movie has been announced! Now, the real question is: Who will be in the cast? So many great voice actors and regular actors in hollywood right now, so who to choose? Well, this is our dream cast of Jon Favreau’s The Lion King. Simba – Donald Glover Donald Glover is a youthful and amazing performer. He is a comedian, actor, and musician who would make the role entirely his own. His voice is beautiful as he’s shown in his songs and he has just the right acting style for this role. Young Simba – Caleb McLaughlin Caleb McLaughlin (most known as Lucas from “Stranger Things”) would be perfect for young Simba. He is an amazing singer and fantastic actor, especially in stressful or tense scenes. He has already played this role on Broadway and would undoubtedly ace it. Nala – Lupita Nyong’o…
