Mini Courses- The Huge Success

Every year FCS students go to their mini-course to jump into a deep dive of a subject that interests them. In this article we have information about how many students were in each course. Insightful Interviews with FCS students.

What was your mini course?

  • Hummus to Hamentashen.

When you first got your course how did you feel?

  • I felt excited to learn about Jewish food and culture.

Were your expectations different from what it was really like?

  • No, it was pretty similar to what I thought it would be like and it was really fun.

Overall did you enjoy your mini course?

  • I loved it.

Where did you go?

  • We went to a place called Mama’s it was a restaurant called Mama’s it had very good Jewish food.

What were some things you did?

  • We did a lot of cooking and on the last day while we cooked we watched wrestling because Mr. Fogel was the teacher.

What did you learn, do you think the course is a deep dive into that subject?

  • It was because the teachers had personal experiences doing these things and they knew a lot about the subject, I learned that Jewish people had to use it as all that they could and they had limited ingredients.

What was your mini course?

  • Mosaics  and myths.

When you first got your course how did you feel?

  • At first, I was hesitant because I wasn’t really sure what it was but it ended up being a lot of fun.

Were your expectations different from what it was really like?

  • Yes, I thought it would be kind of boring because it would be like making mosaics and looking at mosaics all day, but it was a lot of fun to hang out with people I don’t get to spend time with normal and create with them.

Overall did you enjoy your mini course?  

  • Yes.

Where did you go?

  • We went to the mercer castle, which is basically a concrete castle covered in mosaics.

What were some things you did?

  • We made mosaics obviously we also made greek cookies and we went to a greek catering company to have lunch.What did you learn, do you think the course is a deep dive into that subject?
  • I don’t think it’s a deep dive but I still learned a lot, it scraped the service.

What was your mini course?

  • Women Warriors.

When you first got your course how did you feel?

  • Excited.

Were your expectations different from what it was really like?

  • My expectations were about the same because we learned a lot about women in history and I kind of expected that and we also did a little bit more fun things that I didn’t expect.

Overall did you enjoy your mini course?

  • Yes.

Where did you go?

  • We went to see Captain Marvel.

What were some things you did?

  • We did kickboxing and watched a documentary about RGB.

What did you learn, do you think the course is a deep dive into that subject?

  • Yes.

What was your mini course

  • I was in the immigration mini course.

When you first got your mini-course how did you feel

  • I felt good because I knew the teacher Mr. Barry and I know that he is a very good teacher.

Were your expectations different from what it was really like?

  • No, it was a very good mini course and I expected very good from Mr Barry.

Overall did you enjoy your mini course?

  • Yes I loved the mini course so much and I wish I could do it again next year.

Where did you go?

  • We went downtown and we went to some immigration spots.

What were some things you did?

  • We walked around downtown we saw some cool places like the Irish immigration place there was also a spiraly staircase I don’t know how relevant that was to immigration but that was cool.

What did you learn, do you think the course is a deep dive into that subject?

  • I learned that it was very difficult for immigrants to get into the country and it was a difficult process to get into the country and it was a deep dive into the subject.

What was your mini course?

  • Analytics in athletics.

When you first got your course how did you feel?

  • Excited because i was ready to learn about analytics in athletics.

Were your expectations different from what it was really like?

  • Yes I thought it would be a lot of lectures but we only ended up having one lecture.

Overall did you enjoy your mini course?

  • Yes.

Where did you go?

  • To the Eagles stadium and to the Sixers stadium and talked to the managers of the Sixers.

What were some things you did?

  • We talked about how math was used in athletics and went to the stadiums.

What did you learn, do you think the course is a deep dive into that subject?

  • Yes.

 

Clearly, after interviewing FCS students we can see that most people really enjoyed their mini-courses. Almost everyone had fun and thought it was a great way to begin spring break. Everybody learned a lot and feels like it will help their future greatly. Thanks for reading, and we’ll see you next time.
