Fall Sports at FCS

Girls Field Hockey

Our FCS Girls Field Hockey team is killing it so far! Mrs.Tedesco and Mrs. Mansure are teaching the girls so many valuable aspects to win their games. Even though the team didn’t win their first two games they still played hard, and did their best. The coaches made sure the day after both the games that they worked on passing, shooting, corners, position, drives, and communication. Field Hockey is a sport where you’re always bending down to hit the ball, so the team stretches a lot to keep injuries from happening. Each practice after stretching the coaches always have a different plan for the day. Whether splitting the team up to go against each other, or dribbling the ball back and forth to our partners, we always have a fun activity planned. There are only 14 girls on the team so all the girls are included in every game. They are determined to grow better each practice, which is exactly what they’re doing! Even though the team hasn’t won yet, they aren’t letting two losses bring down their confidence. They are going to work harder than ever with a fresh start to the school year. This field hockey team is going to be outstanding!

Girls Tennis

Girls Tennis A-team has had 5 games, and B-team has had 3 games. The B-team doesn’t play any away or home games but the A-team takes care of that. Our FCS tennis A-team is doing really great at scoring and following the ball. Fall sports teams are working on communication, but not the tennis team. They always play one on one with another member of the opposite team. During practices, they practice different hits to do when someone tries to go a certain way. Tennis might seem like there is not a lot to know but you need to know when, where, and how to hit when your opponent does a certain move. Sports aren’t always about winning with your team, it is sometimes about giving credit to yourself. If you want to be independent but win with your team at the same time, then tennis is the sport for you! And don’t forget that boys can join during the Spring.

Crosscountry

Cross Country had their first meet at Germantown Friends School. They made sure to run as fast as they could and the team did amazing! During practice, they run around the track, up to where the field hockey girls practice, around the softball field, and back to the track field where they started. Before they start running at practice they stretch so they don’t get hurt while they run. Cross Country is definitely a good sport for you during the fall if you are thinking about challenging yourself with a sport in the winter and spring. It builds up your ability to continue on with something for a long time. A lot of people in Cross Country came in a really good place against Germantown Friends. For example, Aarin McIntosh came in 13th place for their first meet, and she is one of the only 6th graders! This Cross Country team is going to be the best yet!

Boys Soccer

The A and B team season has come to a rough start but they a                                                         re-growing from each practice and game. Every day except Wednesday they have 1-hour practices. On Wednesdays, they have 30-minute practices. Their games are mostly on Mondays and Wednesdays. In practice, they do some drills and then they scrimmage. The scrimmage is everyone’s favorite part because they get to bond with the team. The team has come a long way from every loss and every win. They will be great this season. FC on 3: 1-2-3 FC!

Flag Football

Flag football is an Intramural and Co-ed sport. During athletics, they run and warm up before they play. After they warm up they split up into four teams and play a game. They have a lot of fun when they play.

Water Polo

Water Polo is a Co-ed sport. The team has played two games against Penn Charter and Episcable Academy. Ian McLuckie is a team member on the water polo team and here is what he has to say; “ At practice we do team sprints, and  we focus on skill or we have intramural scrimmages. At games we warm up by doing a couple of laps, and then we sort into A,B,and C lines. Once we get into the pool we try our hardest to beat the other team. They practice everyday for an hour in the  Shamadia Athletics Center pool. GO FCS WATER POLO!!!

Girls Soccer

Girls Soccer has played 3 games already, they have won 1 game so far. They are doing a great job. In practice, they pass around, shoot the ball and then they play a quick scrimmage. They are growing from every game, win or lose. They are doing great!
