In Filming

Most of the students in the Middle School have noticed something out of the ordinary happening around school this week. From Monday 10/15/17 to Wednesday 10/18/17 the Middle School is welcoming some very special guests, a filming crew who will capture the true spirit of the Middle School.

Let’s start out with a quick introduction to who is on the crew. First up we’ve got Ben Kalina. Third grader Maia Kalina is the daughter of Ben Kalina, and she goes to school here at FCS herself. Next up we’ve got Ian Mosley-Duffy, and finally we have Connor O’Mara. These three people are the only members of the filming crew, and have been working hard throughout the past few days.

The biggest question here on campus inquires as to why the crew is filming during our classes, outside, and even during service? 7th grader Dev Gupta believes that they are filming to advertise the school, while 8th grader Jackson Sheffler said, “Teachers told me that they’re making a documentary for how it is in the middle school.” After asking the crew myself, I found that they are filming in order to make a middle school promotional video. Their main goals in filming are to demonstrate the daily routines that happen around campus as well as to show how our middle school lives are.

The question that falls into second place on our list of questions is where are the film crew taking their shots? As of this time, the film crew have visited many locations on the campus. Some of those places include mainly the Middle School building, as well as down at the stream and in the Makerspace. 8th grader Alec Plante recounts when the film crew was present during his Block 2 Design class in the Makerspace, “They were moving tables around and stuff and just watching us build our projects with the cameras.” 7th grader Dev Gupta stated, “They told me to walk over the FCS sign at the entrance to the middle school building, and they also filmed my Latin class.”

After hearing these previous statements you might be thinking, “So how does this affect everyday routines?” Well, let’s ask 8th grader Jackson Sheffler how his day was when he was filmed. “We were just walking and they were like, ‘Hey can we film you guys walking?’ and they weren’t very intrusive.” So it sounds like the there is very plausible evidence to support the fact that the film crew are very nice and will ask before they film you, so you won’t show up in the film by surprise. However, there is something else that they’ve been doing that affects some people’s routines. This being the fact that they have interviewed a few members of the community, such as 7th grader Marcus Chiang. During these interviews, the cameramen ask questions like, “What’s your favorite part of the Middle School”, “What 3 words best describe the Middle School,” and “What are some of your most memorable Middle School moments?”

Overall, the film crew was a very pleasant group of people to have at our Middle School this week. They weren’t intrusive, they were very kind, and they were a pleasure to have here at the middle school this week. I feel that the anticipation for the video to come out will only rise as the weeks go by, and that the whole Middle School will be thrilled when it is finally published. Thank you, film crew!
