What’s Happening in the White House?: Weeks 4 and 5

Hi, I’m Dylan with Riley here and this is our fourth and fifth week following “What’s Happening in the White House?”. Thank you for all your support; we will be continuing this regular column until the end of the year. In the past two weeks, President Trump has accused Sweden of terrorism and is costing the American people more is security than Obama did in his first term. We will also cover his speeches at CPAC and to Congress. According to CNN and ABC, the New York Police Department says it spends $500,000 a day just to protect the President’s residence at Trump Tower. President Trump’s travel to Mar-a-Lago have cost $10 million in travel and security. Eric and Don Jr. are in Dubai, Melania and Barron are in New York, Ivanka is traveling, and the President is in D.C. Thespians On: The Best Plays on Broadway

Musicals are enchanting, with their singing and dancing and high-energy flare. They make more money than you can shake a stick at and steal the Broadway spotlight. Unfortunately, they steal this spotlight from the smaller, shorter, and, quite frankly, simpler plays. I think this is a sad occurrence, because there are some really funny, really touching, and really moving plays on Broadway, and I think they deserve to be known. The following are, in my opinion, the best plays on Broadway (and off of it.) The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime Off-Broadway (Tickets for Shows at the Kimmel Center) Based off the novel by the same name, this tells a touching story of an autistic teenage boy who is trying to find his mother. I strongly recommend this play, however, it does curse once in a while and handles some difficult themes for young children. Present Laughter Broadway…

Zenkaikon 2017 Preview

AMD Ryzen

By: Riley Roche, Elijah Lee, and Jackson Sheffler You may have heard of the company Intel. Intel produces computer parts and are one of the largest manufacturing for CPU processors in the world. Recently a company named AMD have released a new processor called AMD Ryzen 7 series which include the 1700 ($329), the 1700X ($399) and the 1800X ($499). AMD, in the past, has only been used for budget computers but now AMD could overtake intel in the medium to high priced processors. Today we will be discussing AMD’s approach and how they are starting to distance themselves from there regularly “budget” CPU’s. The Ryzen lineup contains three new processors, the 1700, 1700X and 1800X. All three processors outperform the latest Intel lineup. They all pack 8 cores/16 threads, and are all overclockable. Restaurant Review: Hymie’s Merion Delicatessen

As you may know, there have been some tragedies in the Jewish community across the country, and we thought it would be a perfect time to review a Jewish deli! Here we have Hymie’s Merion Delicatessen, which is an incredible Jewish deli located in Merion Station (hence the name), near two other fabulous restaurants, Saffron (find our review for that here), and Shangri-la (review coming soon!). Decor Hymie’s is known for it’s traditional diner feel, as well as its durability. It has been around since 1955 and has even survived a truck crashing into the building! Review: Artist’s Pens

Are you interested in using pens in your artwork? Maybe this review is for you! Pen #1: Pilot G-2 05 This pen was obviously meant for writing, and it does it’s job. It’s ink is very black, and it writes smoothly. However for drawing I would avoid this pen. It’s very small, but the pen strokes show up so that you can’t get a clean black section. Instead you see some scratchy pen lines. 4/10 for drawing, 8/10 for writing, Pen #2: Micron Graphic 1 Sakura is known for its high quality micron drawing pens. The ink is nice, the nibs are nice, and they have a variance of sizes. However microns run out of ink if you work mainly with pens, and are not refillable. You might find yourself leaning towards more long-lasting pens if you work only with ink. The graphic 1 is the biggest micron size. It’s…

The March for Science

We all are aware of the recent protests following the inauguration of Donald Trump, such as the international Women’s March and protests of the travel ban at various airports. The next organized protest is the March for Science, which will also be international. This march will take place on Earth Day; April 22, 2017, and its slogan is “Science, not Silence” (1). Some scientists feel marginalized by the beliefs of our president, as well as some policy changes such as the Dakota Access and Keystone XL Pipelines. He even asked agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency to decrease their publicity. This has outraged some people, so they decided that they would make their voices heard. However, organizers of the March for Science aim to not make the march anti-Trump to make it unbiased. One test-rally has already occurred, so there is an idea of what it will be like….

Social media, messaging and emails have become essential pieces of many people’s lives. These platforms, however, are more menacing and dangerous than some people know. One text message can be taken out of context and twisted, a post can be turned into a threat, a private email can be forwarded. Sometimes, though, a person may not make the right decision by sending an email, text, etc. in the first place, and in the end the issue that follows can actually be traced back to them and not the instigator. This is something extremely relevant to us as middle schoolers, because a large portion of our social lives is controlled through a form of social media (for most of us, at least). Recap: Sherlock, Season 4

Sherlock is a BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) original series. It’s a spinoff of the original Sherlock Holmes series, including key characters like Mycroft Holmes and the great Moriarity.
