Ready to Forgive: A Baseball Drama

“When I point to you, say your name and the position that you want to play on the Harvard baseball  team,” the head coach said gruffly. He pointed to Bryan. “Bryan Petersen, Shortstop. And, by the way, David Ortiz’s slugging percentage in 2006 was .636.” Everyone on the team, including the coach, looked at him funny. Then, the coach shrugged and moved on to the next name. After coach had moved through all of the names, he said that they would start off practice by figuring out what position everyone was going to play. He started off by hitting all of the infielders grounders. He started with Bryan. As Bryan ran out to shortstop, he heard his new teammates snickering, as Bryan probably looked like he should have been playing first base or even linebacker. Even the coach had to suppress a smirk. Mini-Course Review 2015

Mini-courses are three-day classes of your choice that range in subject from science to art to history. Mini-courses are usually the week before Spring Break. There were ten different options for mini-courses this year: “ART + Chemistry = Alchemy” “Our Fightin’ Phils” “72-Hour Film Festival” (link to short films: “Kids with Superpowers,” “Taken by the Dark,” and “Lost and Found” are by FCS students) “WFCS: Phoenix Radio” (link to station site) “FCS Idol” “Survivor” “Celtic Designs” “The Arctic” “Lincoln’s Assassination” “Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy and Physiology” In this brief review I will outline three of these mini-courses: ART + Chemistry = Alchemy In the alchemy mini-course, students focused on food chemistry and how different foods are made and composed chemically. On the second day, this mini-course took a trip to the Old Rittenhouse Village and made paper and pancakes. Teen Comic-Con at the Free Library

Are you a student who loves anime, manga, and cosplay? Are you a Magic player? Well, then this event is for you! The Free Library of Philadelphia is hosting a Comic-Con (or comic convention) for teens ages 12-20. This event, “The Free Library of Comic-Con,” offers teens the opportunities to lead discussions, display their artwork, and participate in a cosplay tournament, where you can dress up as any of your favorite fictional characters. Warning! This event is NEXT WEEKEND! The Free Library of Comic-Con will take place on Saturday April 11, 2015 from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.
