Really Good Unknown Movies: The Perfect Game

The Perfect Game is based on a true story. It is about a group of kids from a poor area in Mexico who dream of playing Little League baseball. When they manage to get a coach, the whole town pitches in to get them to the Little League World Series. But when the kids get to Texas for the Series, they are faced with a huge amount of racism and hatred because they are Mexican. The Perfect Game is a heartwarming story of a bunch of kids who work their hardest to get what they deserve. I highly recommend this really good unknown movie and rate it five out of five stars!

Splatoon Review

Hey everyone this is gonna be my first game review. I’m going to do a lot of these, so I’ll familiarize you with how I’m gonna do this. First I’ll do 10-star ratings for gameplay, plot, design, soundtrack, and creativity. Then I’ll do my review, followed by some pics, tips, and finally some info about the game director and stuff. At the end, I will give the game a final rating out of 100. Last, I want to tell you that this is in my opinion so if you hated the game, that’s okay. And my first game review will be… RATINGS Gameplay: 6/10 Plot: 3/10 Design: 7/10 Soundtrack: 9/10 Creativity: 10/10 Released on May 28, 2015, Splatoon already seemed amazing when first revealed at E3 2014. Appearing in multiple Nintendo Directs, many were excited. The game features humanoid squids called “Inklings” who play “Turf Wars,” four-on-four online paintball fights. You can…

Top 15 Mario Games

This year is Mario’s 30th Anniversary. The original Super Mario Bros game came out thirty years ago (1985), so I’m going to write a Top 15 list on all the best Mario games! I would’ve done Top 30, but after a long pause, I realized that I had not played 30 Mario Games (yet). So I divided thirty in half and created a Top 15 list. #15: Mario Kart DS (DS, 2005) This game was almost deleted, but I decided that it should stay. Mario Kart DS is a incredibly confusing game, and it was the first Mario Kart game I ever played. For those who don’t know, the Mario Kart series has 11 games, and the whole plot or premise is to race other players (either friends or CPUs) to win characters and stages. This game has tons of wacky stages to race in–some that are not used anymore…

Haiku? More like “BYE”-ku!

At the beginning of the one-to-one iPad program last year, there was an application that has been recently discontinued: Haiku Learning. It has been replaced by Veracross and eBackpack. This was a decision made by Mr. Crowley (Director of Technology), Mrs. Quinn (Middle School Principal), Miss Schwobel (Technology Coordinator & Librarian), and other officials last summer. One of the interesting things about this choice is that FCS was using Veracross during the 2013-2014 school year, but thought Haiku would be a better program in the long run. However, after returning from a Veracross conference this summer, Mr. Crowley learned about new Veracross features and amenities that were not available when the school had used it. After sharing this information with fellow staff members, Miss Schwobel said “it was a no brainer” to switch back to Veracross. Miss Schwoebel shared, “Throughout last school year, we, the Tech Department, had been getting…

Top 5 Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Novels

Okay, folks, I think you all know that I’m a big fan of choose-your-own-adventure novels. If any of you have read my choose-your-own-adventure article, you know how they work. If not, then this is the part for you. In choose-your-own-adventure novels, you play the main character and you make the decisions. One wrong move can lead to your dismay, or even your demise. Here are my top five choose-your-own-adventure novels. (P.S. I have only read five.) 5 The Keep of the Lich-Lord by Dave Morris and Jamie Thomson This book is available on the App Store for $5, and in book form for a lot more money (it’s a collectible). Play as either a Paladin or a Rogue. The app has been adapted into the world of Fabled Lands. For centuries, the kingdom of Golnir has suppressed the pirate armies. Uleath Island, the only defense against the Reavers (the pirates), has…

App Unwrap: Duolingo

Foreign languages are hard to learn. But what if you could devote only 15 minutes a day to learning a language, and slowly gain fluency? Like everything, there’s an app for that–and that app is Duolingo. What does it do? Duolingo is an app that allows you to devote a short amount of time each day for a language lesson. Now that may sound like another class and more work for you to do, but the lessons are structured pretty much like games. This app makes me want to come back to learn German (the language I’m learning) everyday and I feel a twinge of sadness when I miss my daily lesson. However, along with German, Duolingo offers Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Irish, Danish, Swedish, and Turkish. Best of all, it’s free, and there are no in-app purchases. The lessons the app offers are wide and varied, but let…

An Outsider’s Perspective on FCS vs. [Name Withheld] Public School

My friend and fellow journalist Kai Schenck of the eighth grade has offered to write me a story detailing his time in a particular public school and how it compares to his time at Friends’ Central. This is Kai’s story: I often hear people in the hallways complaining about various aspects of the school. Don’t be offended, teachers and staff. I’m sure you did the same thing when you were in school. I sometimes even join in on this practice, but what others don’t know is that this school provides a very different experience than others. Okay, so I went to this school called [NAME WITHHELD] Middle School for my sixth and seventh grade years. It was a rather rich and privileged public school. Being one of the best public schools in the Tampa Bay area, it was very crowded, with 850 kids in the school and about 280 kids per…
