Dakota’s Weekly Movie Review

By: Dakota Diego-Brait ’26 This Week’s Movie: Freaky Starring: Kathryn Newton (Millie Kessler) and Vince Vaughn (Crazy butcher killer guy) Age rating: 18+ Setting: Blissfield Genre: Horror/Comedy   Disclaimer: IF YOU READ THIS IT CONTAINS SPOILERS SO DON’T COME UP TO ME AND GET MAD AT ME FOR SPOILING SOME STUFF. I WARNED YOU.   About the movie: 17 year old Millie Kessler gets constantly picked on, never seems to fit in, and is constantly bullied by her art teacher (the typical beginning to a horror movie not much of a surprise). She is also the mascot for the school. She does some weird dance in every game and gets trash and random stuff thrown at her. One night a crazy butcher guy decides to go after her. Flashback time: There are about four teenagers partying at this girl’s dad’s mansion that looks like a mini castle. They’re all doing…

Facts, Not Fumbles: Week 5

Football Week 5 The Grand Losers of last week are (drumroll) … The Titans Titans @ Jaguars, by Noah Liebman ’27    The Titans just lost to the Jets. That is a disgrace to the state of Tennessee. R.I.P. to the Titans fans who were about to brag how good they were. The defense was basically a winless high school J.V. team. They will never come back from that. Losing to a team in New York City is the lowest of the low. The Jaguars are looking to keep their consistency as they have lost 19 games in a row. The last time the Jaguars won was September 13, 2020 that was over a year ago! In Madden 21 their best player was their kicker and he got hurt at the beginning of the year! I think the score will be 31-17  with the Titans prevailing, because the Titans have lost…

Dakota’s Weekly Movie Review

By: Dakota Diego-Brait ’26 This Week’s Movie: Identity Thief Starring: Melissa McCarthy (Diana) and Jason Bateman (Sandy Patterson) Age rating: 18+ Setting: Denver (where Sandy lives) and Florida (where Diana lives) Genre: Comedy   Disclaimer: IF YOU READ THIS IT CONTAINS SPOILERS SO DON’T COME UP TO ME AND GET MAD AT ME FOR SPOILING SOME STUFF. I WARNED YOU. About the movie: Basically, Diana steals people’s identities and buys herself whatever she wants. She then somehow finds out Sandy’s number (she probably just typed up a random number) and tries to sell him “Identity theft protection” over the phone. Therefore making him reveal all of his credit card information to her (very dumb move on Sandy’s part). Diana then goes and does illegal stuff, buys whatever she wants, and just creates disruptions everywhere she steps foot. Sandy then is arrested for doing all of these things even though he…

Carvel’s Corner (Oct. 6 Edition)

This Week’s Topic: Should middle school students be allowed to eat in the cafeteria? This afternoon, I spoke with fellow students, Izzy Marien-Efron (8th), Sammi Smith (8th), Max Copelovitch (7th), Gabrielle Davidow (6th), Cobrin Stanish (8th), Aarin McIntosh (8th), Elle von Andreae (7th), and Jason Polykoff. There have been two very popular opinions. Half of the students believe that we should be allowed to eat in the cafeteria, because eating outside can most times be very uncomfortable with bugs, weather,  and several other reasons. Then, the other half believe that eating lunch inside the cafeteria is not the safest thing to do because being in a closed space with many people with everyone’s mask off while eating is dangerous. They believe that the safest thing to do is to be outside so we can be as safe as possible. Personally I agree with both sides but I really do hate…

Jonah Talks Hockey

Written by: Jonah Casel ’27 It’s hockey season again, and the Flyers are looking good. I know they will get my hopes up and then strip them away by march, but that doesn’t stop me from getting excited! On September 28 they played the Islanders and lost in overtime 3-2. That doesn’t matter because it was preseason and they were playing the New York Islanders, one of the best teams in the league, placing top 4 in the last two years. Players that I would like to highlight are Maxsim Sushko, and Egor Zamula, two rookies. The Flyers are one of the youngest teams in the league, and having strong rookies would really help them in the future. Last night was the debut for many new Flyers players that they acquired over the offseason, such as Keith Yandle, Ryan Ellis, Derick Brassard, Cam Atkinson, and Rasmus Ristolainen. It was really…

Who would Friends Central students vote for in the 2020 elections?

In November 2020 the US will hold their quadrennial elections. The outcome of this election is most likely to be Donald Trump as the winner, but this does not mean that we should not look into the other candidates and get our opinions out to our parents on who we would like to see in office.   Dallas Wolfson (‘24): “Biden. ’Cause he’s not Trump.”   Zack Platt (‘21): “Bloomberg. He’s the mayor of NY. He was just announced, he’s a billionaire, the best mayor New York has ever had. Second choice would be Biden but I wouldn’t vote for him in the primary. I love Andrew Yang, but he won’t win. He also only has a couple of things he’s running on, and not looking at the big picture for the country. I hate Elizabeth Warren, she’s terrible. She pretended to be Native American… she’s just kinda odd. Kamila…

Us-Iran Conflict; Fear and Memes

As you’ve probably heard, there has been some tension between the US and Iran that has come to the world’s attention in the past couple weeks. This article will go over two things, the conflict and the memes about World War 3.  The conflict started getting big on January 3rd, when the US sent a drone to kill the Iranian general Qasem Soleimani. Trump said Soleimani was a terrorist and was planning on killing more Americans. After Soleimani was killed, Iran sent 22 missiles to Ayn al-Asad base in Iraq. The base housed US troops that were stationed there. Trump later said in his speech to the United States that there were no casualties and minimal damage to the base. In the same address Trump predicted no war with Iran in the near future. He also said that if Iran does anything to the US the US will place sanctions…

Jojo Rabbit: A Comedy About WW2, One Way or Another

Please note that the opinions of this review only reflect the views of the author, and do not represent FCS or the Phoenix Enquirer as a whole. It may be hard to believe, but it’s true. They pulled off a comedy about the tragic events of WW2, when Hitler vowed to destroy everyone who was different from him. The movie was directed by Taika Waititi, the director of Thor: Ragnarok, so I promise you this movie is better than you expect. And even though this is a comedy, it manages to keep it honest and depressing at the same time.   In the movie, we follow a 10 year old boy who dreams of being like Hitler. He attends a training camp for Hitler Youth in hopes of being the best patriot he can be. Unfortunately, he gets scars from a grenade incident after a failed revenge attempt. After that,…

The Young Playwrights Contest In FCS Middle School

Here we have an interview with Lori Reed, the middle school drama teacher. The interview with Ms. Reed gives the information about what this contest is all about, and what the winners earn.    What is the young playwrights competition?  So it’s called the playwrights in progress, and it’s an opportunity for young people to express their views in an art in the form of a play! What do you do to help students enter into the competition?  We have a process of preaching the parts of the play, reading other students plays so they can see examples, then brainstorm together, and then when they start writing their plays their classmates start to improve and expand their own plays. What does the winner of the young playwrights competition earn?  In our Friend’s Central competition you get to direct your cast and see your own play up on the main stage,…
